Does it cost anything just to watch and not play anything? And do we buy tickets at the door?

Yes, you don't have to buy a ticket until the lan has started but it's a good idea to reserve a place on this site (see top left corner) so there's a seat for you if you're bringing a PC. Friday night it's pretty packed and we'll probably run out of seats in the PC area but there's usually spare space in the social area which you can set your PC up in, it still has networking etc.

Pro tip: Supermembership tickets gets used up even if you miss a LAN. _________________

Social Supermembers may upgrade to an allocated seat for a single LAN by paying the difference between the Social and Full single ticket (currently $9/$4.50). Social Lifetime supermembers may upgrade to a Lifetime Full Supermembership by paying the difference between the Social and Full Lifetime Supermembership (currently $240/$120).
